The construction of the CT4 container terminal in Bremerhaven is in many respects a project of superlatives. Gigantic quantities of sand, concrete and steel had to brought in and processed. One of the most difficult tasks involved was getting the river to forfeit a bit of land. 10 million m3 of sand were required for the new land. The builders took the material from the river Weser. Huge dredgers sucked the sand from the bottom. For final transportation from the ship to the construction site, enormous floating hoses from Eddelbüttel & Schneider in Hamburg were used.

Besides the quantities of sand, construction of the terminal also consumed untold cubic yards of concrete which also arrived at its destination through hoses from ContiTech. CT 4 rests on 3,600 steel piles and 743 massive supporting planks which required about 60,000 m3 of concrete; each individual plank is over 40 meters long and weighs 25 tons. The concrete was pumped through concrete hoses manufactured by ContiTech MGW in Hann.-Münden. Highly abrasion-resistant grades of natural rubber make the outer layer of the hoses extremely resistant to weathering and ozone attack. All fittings are surface-hardened, and skived ends guarantee smooth concrete flow and eliminate blockages. Sleeves are crimped and painted or galvanized to prevent wear.

Floating hoses made by Eddelbüttel & Schneider are also being used for the construction of the new terminal in Germany's only deepwater port, the JadeWeserPort near Wilhelmshaven. The hoses were produced specifically for this job by ContiTech Rubber Industrial in Szeged, Hungary. The two approximately 2,000-meter long flushing lines, which transport the sand to the site, consist of 12-meter sections of floating hose, among other things. Depending on the dredger used, each of these pieces has an inner diameter of up to 750 mm (1,100 mm outer diameter), and each floating hose segment weighs up to 5.5 tons.
